BIG COLLECTION

We aren't able to go out and raise cash for the big Collection this year - the Big Collection is what we used to call the Annual Appeal, where we go door to door to raise money for the Army's Social Work in the UK. Whilst we haven't done any door to door collecting for a couple of years now, we have been able to send our contribution by giving a part of the Paper Sales, Special Events and from Charity Shop Sales and Christmas Playing. Most of these have been curtailed due to Covid 19 but even so we do have a responsibility to help with the Army's National Social Work so the following video shows both the need, and the means by which we can contribute. Please do take the request seriously and see if you can afford to give even a small sum. If you wish to give but aren't quite sure about how to make your contribution, just give me a call on 01924 820404 and I will help you to sort it!!

Many thanks for all the financial help you have continued to give.

God bless Laurence

Good morning and welcome to worship.

This morning’s message is by Mark Hodgkinson but we will commence our worship by joining Clearwater Corps in singing verses 1,2&4 of song 892 “Simply Trusting every day”.

SIMPLY trusting every day,

Trusting through a stormy way,

Even when my faith is small,

Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting as the moments fly,

Trusting as the days go by,

Trusting Him whate'er befall,

Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Brightly doth His Spirit shine

Into this poor heart of mine;

While He leads I need not fall,

Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting Him while life shall last,

Trusting Him till earth be past,

Till within the jasper wall;

Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Now let’s listen to the I.S.S. singing “When we cannot see the way”. The lyrics are there for you to join in if you wish.

Now let us pray.

Father God, You know the way we take, our thoughts, our frustrations, our concerns and our hopes. We ask that you take us through these days of trials safe in the thought that you care for us, so we pray for greater trust and the awareness of your presence in our lives during these dark days. For some of us this period is extremely dark because we are suffering from the indirect consequences of the virus. Others are going through difficulties caused by ill health. Please be with them in a special way.

We pray for all who are trying to find ways of containing this disease – that they may be successful in discovering safe and effective ways to prevent the illness – that those working in care homes and hospitals will be kept safe and given the strength they need – that the general public will be sensible in their behaviour. We also think of those who are prevented from worshipping freely because of persecution. Sustain them in their faith.

May our worship be acceptable to you.

We pray all this in Jesus’ name.

Amen

The Bible reading is from Mark 13: 22-33

22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.

24 “But in those days, following that distress,

“‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.

Now be blessed by the playing of David Daws and Derick Kane and Enfield Band playing I’ll not turn back”.

Now we will receive Mark’s message for today.

To conclude our meeting join with Bram Davis and Graham Sapwell by singing

‘Someone Cares’

Benediction:

Now - Let nothing disturb thee,

Nothing affright thee

All things are passing

God never changeth

Patient endurance

Attaineth to all things

Who God possesseth

In nothing is wanting. Alone God sufficeth.

Thank you for reading and watching

We have now been able to set up a scheme which will enable you to give in an offering online.  Below  there is a QR code – a square with ‘Givt’ in the middle and black and white squiggles all over it – and when you download the ‘Givt’ app onto your phone or other device you will be able to make a contribution, of whatever amount, to the Corps simply by showing you phone or device  to the QR icon.

Here’s what to do :

  1.  Download the app named ‘Givt’ from the Apple ‘App Store’ or ‘Google Play’ on your phone or tablet etc.

  2. Wait for an email from ‘Givt’ which will give you instructions as to how to proceed further

  3. Follow the emailed instructions to register on to the system.

  4. Then when you want to make a donation you simply allow your phone or device to read the QR icon below and enter the amount you want to give – and you’re done!

The amount will be given anonymously and will be taken from your account not less than 8 days and not more than 11 days from when you made the donation.  The Bank details are safe and secure and 100% of the gift is given to LWH Corps.

Please note that the donation is not instead of your cartridge, - it simply takes the place of your normal ‘Sunday Offering Plate’ gift. Your giving is very important  to the Corps and greatly appreciated.

At this time when we are unable to meet as we used to, we have lost the Offering revenue, so this a great way to keep on supporting the Corps in these difficult times.

That’s all there is to it – but If you want clarification on any point please do not hesitate to contact me.

God bless

Laurence
